Before and After a Full Series of 10 Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments
What kind of results can you expect from cosmetic acupuncture?
Today I’m very excited to share some new before and after photos from a cosmetic acupuncture patient.
These photos are shared with the patient’s permission, of course. Many thanks to the patient for allowing me to share these!
Below the photos I’ve answered the following common questions about cosmetic acupuncture:
- – What is cosmetic acupuncture?
- – How does it work?
- – How many treatments are needed?
- – Are maintenance treatments recommended?
Front: Significantly reduced fine lines between the brows and at the outside of the eyes (Crow's feet and tops of the cheeks), as well as sculpting of the jawline near the chin.
Right side: Reduced crow's feet lines on the cheek. Increased moisturization of the skin overall is visible, especially on the cheek area.
Left side: Reduced crow's feet and reduced lines on the cheeks.
Close up for right side: Reduced crow's feet and reduced lines on the cheek, improved moisturization and suppleness of the skin.
Close up of area between the brows: Reduced lines between the brows and on the forehead.
What is cosmetic acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture is a specific style of acupuncture that focuses on reducing fine lines and wrinkles, brightening the overall complexion, reducing facial puffiness, and giving the skin a healthy, youthful glow.
How does cosmetic acupuncture work?
Acupuncture has been shown through research to increase blood flow in the tissues around the needles. For cosmetic acupuncture, this increased blood flow to the skin is important because with it, blood brings increased oxygen and nutrients that the skin needs to heal, build more collagen, and overall look it’s best. Of course, increased circulation to the skin of the face also gives an instant “glow” to the skin, like you just woke up from a spectacular nap!
The other goal of cosmetic acupuncture is to create tiny “micro-traumas” in the dermis, which the body naturally responds to with a “healing cascade.” When the body is injured, this healing cascade brings attention to the area and delivers proteins for rebuilding. In the case of the skin, that protein happens to be collagen and elastin, which helps give the skin a more plump look and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well.
How many treatments are needed?
The typical recommendation for cosmetic acupuncture is two treatments per week for five or six weeks, depending on the patient’s age and skin condition.
Repeated treatments are needed to enhance collagen in the skin to a level that is noticeable, and for lasting results.
At Seneca Falls Acupuncture, we do offer a standalone cosmetic acupuncture treatment, called the Acupuncture Glow Facial, which is great for brightening the skin and making it look fresh. The results from a single treatment usually last a few days to a week.
However, the goal of a series of 10-12 cosmetic treatments is longer lasting results.
Cosmetic acupuncture is usually a soft, subtle change. It’s a great alternative to more harsh cosmetic treatments, however, the results are not overnight. Typically patients begin to see a change in their skin around the fifth or sixth treatment. In addition, around this time, many patients feel a sensation of tightness across the cheeks – always a good thing!
Are maintenance treatments recommended?
Yes. Once the full series of 10-12 treatments has been completed, it is recommended to have one cosmetic acupuncture “maintenance” treatment ever four to six weeks to maintain your results.
After two years, I recommend repeating the full series of 10-12 treatments again.
